I keep hearing and reading news stories describing Jack Abramoff as a "super-lobbyist." These usually tie into Republican attempts to paper over the scandal with "lobbying reform" rather than anti-corruption investigations.
To be accurately described as a "super-lobbyist", wouldn't you expect Abramoff to have some lobbying successes, not just "access"? Abramoff was a Republican and conservative activist ; I have seen no evidence that he successfully lobbied for anyone except those whose causes happened to align with his own conservative causes. Has anyone else seen any exceptions?
Here's an entry on the antropology blog
Savage Minds describing how Abramoff took millions from the Meskwaki tribe and directed them to make donations to a conservative PAC which, it turns out,
was working directly against their interests and supporting Gale Norton's legal fight against Indians!
How is this "lobbying"? Are there any counterexamples? Is Abramoff in any sense a lobbyist, or just a money-launderer and con man who used lobbying as a cover for his con jobs?
